So you've seen more masculine folks are wearing accessories... Here are our top tips for helping them sell in YOUR store!

(We aren't miracle workers and can't make any promises, but we just might be able to help!)

As a baseline we want to acknowledge that men wearing jewelry is not a new phenomenon. Men and masc folks globally have been wearing jewelry for centuries, so we aren't reinventing the wheel. We do, however, want you to have all the tools you need for selling in 2024!

Tip #1: 'Talking' about your jewelry and accessories in a new way.

The way you and your staff talk about product as you are selling it can have a huge influence on people's purchasing habits. One easy way to sell jewelry and accessories in a more inclusive way is by removing any unnecessarily gendered language- "women's rings", "women's bags", "women's bracelets" could all just become: "rings", "bags", and "bracelets". This helps to eliminate barriers in shopping for people of all kinds! This also relates to how you might categorize things on your website. If a customer can only find jewelry or bags by navigating through a tab labeled "women" it may make it harder for masc folks to find the products they are looking for.

Tip #2: Photos matter too!

Here at Fair Anita, we have committed to using masc models for some of our jewelry and accessories at every new photoshoot. Leo (he/they) and Ethan (he/y'all) both keep allowing us to provide some model shots where a traditionally masc person are wearing our jewelry. We want to encourage you to use those photos when they are available! Any of our pieces could be for anyone, but Ethan works hard to style either Leo or himself in pieces that might sell well to your more masc audience. But even if you don't think so, it can speak volumes for someone to see themselves represented on your website or social media page. If you are taking your own photos of our products, we would really encourage you to look for a masc model, we know it can be hard, but it could really pay off in the end!

Tip #3: Thoughtfully stock your shelves.

When you are looking for products to carry for the next season it could be really helpful to watch for trend reports from both the brands you choose to shop from and general style blogs and influencers. We do a lot of work to pull together pieces that will sell well for you and to put together a fairly comprehensive trend report for you too. The pieces that masc folks are looking for now are in some ways very different from what you may traditionally think of as a "man's jewelry" so feel free to do any research you want to to make sure you are stocking your shelves in the most inclusive way. Another small change you might make while stocking your shelves is thinking about the sizes of the pieces you are buying- could this style fit fingers of a lot of sizes? Can the strap of this bag be extended to fit more bodies? Sometimes the answer may be 'no' and that is totally okay, because we are all on a path towards growing.

These tips certainly aren't foolproof, but we hope that they are helpful to you as you think about ways to sell jewelry to more masc folks!
xoxo,
The Fair Anita Team
