Meet Team Uruguay, one of the oldest and largest fair trade cooperatives in Uruguay. Team Uruguay is comprised of 13 cooperatives and 250 women located throughout the rural interior of the country. With a special focus on ending poverty and women’s personal development, Team Uruguay invests in its artisans through a service center model. Service centers are located throughout the interior region of Uruguay where artisans can go to receive technical training, financial advising and sales support. The artisans of Team Uruguay have a mastery of knitting, from handknitting to manual knitting machines, and they are best known for their luxurious handspun yarn. We are proud to partner with Team Uruguay and support their work to alleviate poverty for women and families through fair trade craftsmanship.
We support Team Uruguay by helping them employ more women, earn higher wages and reach new customers.
We commit to long term, reliable trade agreements that allow cooperatives to hire more women and make proactive business decisions. Team Uruguay can count on us to place continuous orders at consistent prices, and that trust results in more jobs and more job security for women.
We recognize the difference between living wage and minimum wage, and we pay our artisans more than the minimum wage in Uruguay, which is $11.8 USD per day.
